Amalgam Fillings

A standard dental procedure- carried out to exacting standards

The placement of a filling is probably one of the most common procedures undertaken at any dental practice and it’s certainly something performed at Blagreaves Dental on a daily basis. However, this doesn’t mean that we take the process lightly!

All our fillings are expertly placed, taking into account any existing issues with the tooth, its location in your mouth and your own personal requirements and desires.

We offer traditional metal fillings, which despite some health concerns have been proven safe and for many years have been considered the most consistently durable type of filling. We are also pleased to provide white fillings for those patients who would prefer a more natural finish.

While white (or tooth coloured) fillings have tended to prove less hardwearing in the past, today the many new and exciting materials used are comparable to amalgam in terms of strength and durability. Many now have the potential to last just as long as metal.

It is also possible for us to replace any old metal fillings with composite. This is a great way to transform and refresh the look of your mouth. No matter how many fillings you have or need, you no longer need to be embarrassed by flashing a mouth full of metal! Feel free to laugh and talk with confidence once again.

How long will my filling take?

A filling is a straight forward procedure which will take place in one appointment between 10 and 20 minutes long. This will depend on the type of filling you are having as tooth coloured fillings can take slightly longer to place.

You will likely require a very quick injection in your gum to help numb the tooth before we can prepare it by removing the cavity and cleaning it prior to filling.

The filling will be hardened with a UV light before you leave the practice so it will feel strong and be useable straight away. However, we would recommend that you are careful with your new filling for around 24 hours. Avoid eating anything very chewy or hard on that particular tooth so you don’t pull out the filling or cause any damage.
